The other day, while planning some St. Patrick’s Day fun—aka pinning way too many green-and-gold party ideas—I thought to myself, why not get my dog in on the fun, too? He’s always there for snuggles, walks, and cleaning up after me in the kitchen—sneaking in a crumb here and there. So this year, I’m whipping up some homemade St. Patrick’s Day dog treats. After all, pets need a little holiday cheer, too, don’t they?

If you love finding ways to treat your dog with healthy, homemade snacks, then these festive treats are a must. They are super easy to make, and they are also packed full of dog-approved ingredients that are sure to keep tails wagging. Plus, they’re shamrock-shaped and green to bring the best of luck to your dog. 🙂

Healthy, Homemade Dog Treats for St. Patrick’s Day

For this recipe, I wanted to stick with simple, wholesome ingredients you most likely have in your kitchen. You will need yogurt, applesauce, and spinach for that St. Patrick’s Day green hue. Plus, these treats are also great for gut health if your dog can tolerate dairy.

Frozen St. Patrick’s Day Dog Treats

If you’re looking for a dog treat that stays extra green and vibrant, these frozen treats are perfect. They’re cool, creamy, and super refreshing!

Ingredients:

1 cup plain unsweetened yogurt (or a non-dairy option like coconut yogurt for sensitive tummies)
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/4 cup spinach puree (blended fresh spinach with a splash of water)
Optional: 1/4 teaspoon spirulina or natural green food coloring for a brighter hue

How to Make Them:

In a blender, puree the spinach, spirulina or food coloring (if using), yogurt, and applesauce until smooth and uniform in color.

Pour into silicone molds—shamrock-shaped molds are perfect for the theme! If you don’t have shamrock molds, ice cube trays work too.

Freeze for 2-3 hours or until solid. Pop out of molds and store in an airtight container in the freezer.

Not only are these treats dog-safe, but they will also look amazingly festive for those holiday photos and fun moments with your pup!

St. Patrick’s Day Pet Ideas

Make these frozen dog treats at home and let your dog join in on the fun this St. Patrick’s Day, matching them up with cute accessories: a green St. Patricks Day bandana or perhaps a shamrock bow tie—and snap a picture to share with friends. And don’t forget to pin this recipe for later!

And if you want to really make it an extra-special affair, why not just make it an outright tradition? You can even package some of these goodies up in little gift bags for those doggy-lovin’ friends—they will appreciate the thought, and their dogs will thank them!
