Store-bought soaps are often full of detergents and synthetic fragrances that strip your skin dry. Today, I’m sharing my favorite moisturizing DIY soap recipes for different skin types — simple, customizable, and perfect for any homemade soap lover out there.
A quick note on the base
All these homemade soap recipes use a melt-and-pour base.
For beginners, melt-and-pour is the easiest option. Melt a pre-made glycerin or shea butter base, add your ingredients, pour into molds, and you’re done!

1. DIY Soap Recipes for Dry Skin
Honey & Shea Butter Bar
Shea butter is incredibly rich in fatty acids. Honey is a natural humectant that pulls moisture into the skin and keeps it there.

Ingredients
- Shea butter base
- Raw honey (1 tbsp)
- Coconut oil (1 tbsp)
- Vitamin E oil (10 drops)
- Lavender essential oil
Melt your shea butter base, stir in the honey and coconut oil while warm, add vitamin E and lavender, pour into molds, and let it set overnight. Easy, right?
Add a tablespoon of avocado oil for an extra moisture boost.
Shea Butter & Olive Oil Soap (Very Dry Skin)
If your skin needs serious moisture, this rich and nourishing combo is a perfect choice. Shea butter provides intense hydration, while olive oil helps soften and protect the skin.

Ingredients:
- 1 lb shea butter soap base
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Optional: a few drops of lavender essential oil
Melt the shea butter base and add the olive oil. Mix, pour into molds, and let it set.
This DIY soap is perfect for winter or dry climates.
2. DIY Soap Recipes for Sensitive Skin
Aloe Vera & Shea Butter Gentle Soap
If your skin easily flares up, this mild homemade soap recipe will keep things calm and hydrated.

Ingredients:
- Melt-and-pour shea butter soap base
- 1 tablespoon pure aloe vera gel
- 1 teaspoon chamomile essential oil or lavender
- A few drops of jojoba oil
Melt the shea butter base, mix with the aloe vera, and pour into molds.
This soothing blend of aloe vera and shea butter feels amazing after a long day or post-sun exposure. It’s perfect for keeping your skin happy in summer.
Oat & Chamomile Calming Bar
Colloidal oat is clinically known to calm irritation and reduce redness, while chamomile adds anti-inflammatory goodness. Perfect for eczema-prone skin too.

Ingredients:
- Goat’s milk base
- Colloidal oatmeal (1 tbsp)
- Chamomile infused oil
- Aloe vera gel (1 tbsp)
Melt the goat’s milk base at a low temperature, stir in oatmeal and aloe slowly, fold in the chamomile oil. Skip the fragrance; your skin will thank you.
To make chamomile-infused oil, steep dried chamomile flowers in sweet almond oil for 2 weeks, then strain.
3. DIY Soap Recipes for Combination Skin
Aloe Vera & Cucumber Soap
Aloe vera offers light hidration to your skin. Cucumber is also light and refreshing.

Ingredients:
- 1 lb soap base
- 2 tbsp aloe vera gel
- 1 tbsp cucumber juice
Blend everything into your melted base and pour into molds.
This is one of those homemade soap recipes that feels super fresh and spa-like.
Rosehip & Aloe Balancing Bar
This recipe is all about balance: rosehip seed oil is lightweight and rich in antioxidants, while aloe vera hydrates without adding grease.

Ingredients:
- Glycerin base
- Rosehip seed oil (2 tsp)
- Aloe vera gel (1 tbsp)
- Geranium essential oil
- Kaolin clay (1 tsp)
Kaolin clay is the key here — it’s one of the gentlest clays and absorbs just the right amount of excess oil without stripping anything. Geranium essential oil has a balancing effect on sebum production too.
Use pink kaolin clay instead of white for a prettier bar and a slightly more moisturizing finish. It also photographs beautifully!
4. DIY Soaps for Oily Or Acne-Prone Skin
Green Tea & Charcoal Balancing Soap
Charcoal helps draw out excess oil, and green tea brings antioxidant power — a dream team for shiny or acne-prone skin.

Ingredients:
- Coconut oil soap base
- 1 tablespoon activated charcoal
- 2 tablespoons brewed green tea
- Optional: a few drops of tea tree or peppermint essential oil
Mix everything while the base is warm, pour, and let harden. This soap will keep your face fresh without stripping natural oils.
Lemon & Tea Tree Soap
Tea tree helps to clarify and lemon refreshes and brighten the skin.

Ingredients:
- 1 lb clear soap base
- 5 drops tea tree oil
- 5 drops lemon essential oil
Add oils to your melted base, mix well, and pour.
5. DIY Soaps for Normal Skin
Coconut Milk & Vanilla Everyday Bar
Normal skin just needs a little TLC to stay that way. This everyday bar from my homemade soap recipes collection keeps your skin healthy, hydrated, and smelling absolutely amazing. It’s also a wonderful gift idea!

Ingredients:
- Coconut milk base
- Sweet almond oil (1 tbsp)
- Vanilla fragrance oil
- Castor oil (1 tsp)
- Cocoa butter (1 tbsp)
Add a pinch of vanilla powder (not extract — it can turn brown!) to get that warm, speckled look with an even richer scent.
Rose & Glycerin Soap (Normal Skin)
If your skin is pretty balanced, this is a simple everyday bar.

Ingredients:
- 1 lb glycerin soap base
- 1 tbsp rose water
- Dried rose petals (optional)
Stir everything into your melted base and pour.
Getting Started With Soap Making
Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
- A melt-and-pour soap base — available on Amazon or at craft stores
- Silicone molds — loaf molds or individual bar molds work great
- A microwave or double boiler — for melting your base
- A thermometer — especially important for cold-process soap making
- Your chosen oils, clays, and botanicals — the fun part!
Important Tips
- Always melt your base slowly (microwave in short bursts or double boiler)
- Stir gently to avoid bubbles
- Let soaps fully harden before removing from molds
- Store in a cool, dry place and let them cure for a few days before using to make them last longer.
One of the best things about making your own homemade soap is that you know exactly what’s going in it.
No hidden sulfates, no mystery fragrances — just wholesome ingredients that are good for your skin. Once you start, it’s honestly hard to stop. Your bathroom will smell amazing, your skin will feel incredible, and your friends will keep asking you for bars as gifts.
