Fun Paper Plate Valentine’s Crafts Kids Will Love

1. Paper Plate Love Bug

This adorable little thing is a very nice craft for kids on Valentine’s Day because it is very easy to create – there is no wrong way to do it!

Materials:

  • 1 white paper plate
  • Red, pink, and white construction paper
  • Googly eyes
  • Red or pink pipe cleaners
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Markers or crayons

Instructions:

  1. Paper plate was painted or colored red or pink and completely dried.
  2. The construction paper was cut into heart shapes for the wings.
  3. The plate was folded in half and heart wings were glued onto the back.
  4. The googly eyes were glued onto the center of the plate.
  5. Draw a sweet smile with markers.
  6. Attach pipe cleaners to the top for antennae, bending the ends into heart shapes.
  7. Add any extra decorations like dots or patterns with markers.

2. Paper Plate Heart Wreath

A paper plate heart wreath is an easy valentine craft for kids.

This makes such a lovely piece of decor for your front entrance or your kid’s room!

Materials:

  • 1 paper plate (any size)
  • Red, pink, and white tissue pape
  • Foam hearts or paper heart cutouts
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon for hanging
  • Heart stickers or doilies (optional)

Instructions:

  1. The interior of the paper plate was cut out, leaving just the rim to form a wreath shape.
  2. Tissue paper was cut into small squares (approximately 2 inches each).
  3. Each tissue paper square was crumpled into a little ball.
  4. All-around glue was applied to the paper plate rim.
  5. Tissue paper balls were pressed onto the glue, thus covering the entire wreath.
  6. This was kept up until the whole rim was covered with colorful tissue paper puffs.
  7. Foam hearts, stickers, or doilies may be added for extra decoration.
  8. A hole at the top was punched and ribbon was threaded through for hanging.

3. Paper Plate Valentine Monster

Believe me, even children who do not care for the usual romantic stuff would be happy to make these funny monsters!

Materials:

  • 1 paper plate
  • Pink, red, or purple paint
  • Googly eyes (the more, the merrier!)
  • Construction paper
  • Markers
  • Glue
  • Pom-poms or cotton balls
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. A large silly grin was drawn with markers or one was cut from paper.
  2. The heart-shaped ears or horns were attached to the top of the plate.
  3. Pom-poms were glued on for an effect of softness.
  4. If desired, heart-shaped feet were added at the bottom.
  5. Attach the heart-shaped ears or horns to the top of the plate.
  6. Glue pom-poms on for a fuzzy texture.
  7. Add heart-shaped feet at the bottom if desired.
  8. Let your kiddo draw or glue on any other silly features they want!

4. Heart-Eyed Emoji Plate

A hearteyed emoji plate is a valentine craft for kids.

Kids crack up every time they make these! It’s an easy and at the same time very entertaining project.

Materials:

  • 1 paper plate
  • Yellow paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Red or pink construction paper
  • Black marker
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. First, the paper plate is to be painted a bright yellow color and then dried.
  2. Two large heart shapes are to be cut out from red or pink construction paper.
  3. The hearts are to be glued onto the plate as if they were eyes.
  4. With the black marker, a cute smiley mouth or kissy face is to be drawn.
  5. Extra details like rosy cheeks with a pink marker may be added.
  6. Display your emoji or attach a string to hang it up!

5. Paper Plate Heart Mosaic

This is a very nice quiet-time activity that not only occupies but also develops fine motor skills.

Materials:

  • 1 paper plate
  • Pink, red, purple, and white construction paper or tissue paper
  • Glue stick or liquid glue
  • Pencil
  • Scissors (optional)

Instructions:

  1. On the paper plate, draw a big heart shape with a pencil.
  2. Allow the child to tear the colored paper into very tiny bits (no scissors for toddlers!).
  3. Put glue inside the heart outline.
  4. Let the child put the paper bits onto the glue, filling up the area of the heart.
  5. Go on with the adding of pieces until the whole heart is a beautiful mosaic of colors.
  6. Let dry completely before displaying.

6. Valentine’s Day Unicorn Plate

Instructions:

  1. The paper plate is to be painted white or in a light pastel color and dried afterward.
  2. A cone shape is to be cut out from gold paper for the unicorn horn.
  3. The heart shapes are to be cut in various colors for the mane.
  4. The horn is to be glued to the top center of the plate.
  5. The heart shapes are to be glued around the horn to form a flowing mane.
  6. Attach googly eyes below the horn.
  7. Draw eyelashes and a sweet smile with your marker.
  8. Add little rosy cheeks with pink marker or crayon.

7. Paper Plate Heart Panda

  • 1 white paper plate
  • Black construction paper

  • Glue stick or liquid glue

Instructions:

  1. Cut two black heart ears and glue them to the top of the paper plate.
  2. Cut two large black heart eye patches and glue them to the front.
  3. Add googly eyes on top of the patches.
  4. Cut white heart shapes for the muzzle and a small black heart for the nose; glue them in place.
  5. Draw a simple mouth with a marker.
  6. Let dry and display your cute panda!

8. Paper Plate Heart Owl

Materials

  • 1 paper plate
  • Orange or brown paint
  • Orange, yellow, and pink construction paper
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Paint the paper plate orange or brown and let it dry.
  2. Cut heart shapes from construction paper: 2 large for wings, 2 medium for ears, 2 small for cheeks, 2–3 small for feet, and 1 small yellow heart for the beak.
  3. Glue on the wings (large hearts) to each side of the plate.
  4. Add ears (medium hearts) to the top.
  5. Attach the googly eyes near the top center.
  6. Glue the yellow heart upside down for the beak.
  7. Add heart cheeks under the eyes and heart feet at the bottom.

9. Q-Tip Painted Paper Plate Heart

This is a craft that toddlers have a special liking for, as the Q-tips are so simple for the little ones to hold!

Materials:

  • 1 paper plate
  • Pink or red construction paper
  • Q-tips (cotton swabs)
  • Paint in various colors (pink, red, purple, white)
  • Small paper plates or containers for paint
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. A large heart shape is to be cut out of construction paper.
  2. The heart is to be glued at the center of the paper plate.
  3. Different paint colors are to be poured into small containers.
  4. The dipping of the Q-tip into the paint and dotting it on the heart are to be demonstrated to your child.
  5. Allow them to put colorful dots on the heart until it is fully covered.
  6. They can continue till they are satisfied with their artwork.
  7. Let dry completely before displaying.

10. Valentine’s Day Dream Catcher

This is a bit more advanced but so beautiful when finished – perfect for older kids!

Materials:

  • 1 paper plate
  • Yarn in red, pink, and white
  • Heart cutouts or foam hearts
  • Beads (optional)
  • Ribbons
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Glue

Instructions:

  1. The inner circle of your paper plate is to be cut out, leaving the rim uncut.
  2. Make holes at equal intervals around the rim (8-10 holes approximately).
  3. One end of the yarn has to be tied to one hole.
  4. Your child gets to do weaving of the yarn through the holes, making a web pattern.
  5. Tie off the yarn after the weaving is done.
  6. For the bottom, cut several pieces of ribbon and yarn.
  7. Tie these to the bottom part of the dream catcher.
  8. If you wish, you can put beads on the ribbons.
  9. Glue heart-shaped cutouts on the ribbons and around the rim.
  10. Hang in your child’s room!

11. Paper Plate Cupid

A lovely project that is going to be absolutely right for the kids in primary school!

Materials:

  • 1 paper plate
  • Peach or light pink paint
  • Yellow yarn
  • Construction paper (brown and red)
  • Googly eyes
  • Pink marker or crayon
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Cover the surface of the paper plate with paint in light pink or peach color to resemble Cupid’s face.
  2. After the paint has dried, stick the googly eyes.
  3. Use a marker to draw a nice smile.
  4. Take some yellow yarn, cut it into small pieces and glue it around the top as curly hair.
  5. Make two small cutouts of hearts for blush and paste them on the face.
  6. Cut a tiny bow and arrow from brown paper.
  7. Stick the bow and arrow to the side of the plate.
  8. Your little one can add any other fun details that he/she wants!

12. Valentine’s Day Yarn-Wrapped Heart

This one is such a soothing and relaxing craft that also trains hand-eye coordination.

  • Pink, red, or white yarn
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

Instructions:

  1. Make a big heart shape on your paper plate.
  2. Remove the heart shape.
  3. Punch holes along the heart’s edges (every 1 inch approximately) on both sides.
  4. Tie one end of your yarn to one of the holes.
  5. Woven through the holes, going around the edge, your little one is shown how to go.
  6. Threading will go on until all holes are filled or if the pattern seems to be done.
  7. Tie off the yarn and trim the excess.
  8. Display your beautiful yarn-wrapped heart!
